Now let’s dive into it…

If you have don’t have any idea about what to look for when buying a refrigerator, I highly recommend reading our refrigerator buying guide first.

LG vs. Samsung Refrigerator Overview:

Samsung and LG are prominent South Korean conglomerates that have a strong presence not only in refrigerators but in various industries, including electronics, home and kitchen appliances, and many more.

Both brands have a reputation for innovation, often introducing cutting-edge technologies and pushing boundaries in various product categories. In both companies, you will find a wide range of refrigerators with various features and technologies.

On one hand, Samsung is renowned for its innovative technology and sleek refrigerator designs, while on the other hand, LG places greater emphasis on smart features and advanced cooling technologies.

The surprising fact is that both brands engage in head-to-head competition in the refrigerator market, boasting nearly identical market shares in India. Nevertheless, there are distinct areas where one outperforms the other.

Now, let’s delve into the key factors that are crucial to consider when comparing Samsung and LG refrigerators.

LG vs. Samsung Refrigerator: Features

LG and Samsung both offer refrigerators in all possible door configurations, including single-door, double-door, side-by-side doors, and French-door designs. The door configurations are largely similar in both brands, making it more relevant to delve into a discussion about their respective features.

Contemporary refrigerators boast an array of impressive features, such as frost-free functionality, ice and water dispensers, convertible modes, and more.

Many of these features are shared between LG and Samsung models. Thus, it’s prudent to compare the two brands based on each of these shared features…

Inverter Compressor:

An inverter compressor is often regarded as a heart in any refrigerator. LG refrigerator either comes with a smart inverter compressor or a linear inverter compressor while in all Samsung refrigerators, you will find a digital inverter compressor works.

Now, the smart inverter compressor in the LG refrigerator works similarly to a digital inverter compressor in the Samsung refrigerator to adjust the cooling.

However, the liner inverter compressor enabled in LG refrigerators operates differently. With its mechanism, energy consumption can decrease by up to 45%. Further, it reduces the noise level and preserves freshness.

Most LG linear inverter compressor comes in high-capacity refrigerators (over 450 L) and they may cost from starts ₹55000 to over ₹30000.

In India, LG Smart Inverter Compressor refrigerators and Samsung Digital Inverter Compressor refrigerators have shown greater success compared to LG Linear Compressor Inverter refrigerators.

Direct Cooling:

Direct Cooling is a basic and traditional cooling technology used in mostly single-door refrigerators, especially in more budget-friendly models. This technology relies on natural convection and a simple cooling mechanism to maintain the temperature inside the refrigerator and freezer compartments.

LG and Samsung both offer many refrigerators enabled with direct cool. But, the question is which is best at this feature?

Well, to find the best, I compared the LG 185L Direct-Cool (GL-D201ASCU) refrigerator to the Samsung 189L Direct Cool (RR21C2H25CR/HL) refrigerator. Both have a 5-star energy rating and the 2023 latest model fridge.

While comparing here is what we found:

SpecificationsLG Direct-Cool (GL-D201ASCU)Samsung Direct Cool (RR21C2H25CR/HL)
Door type Single Door Single Door

Price₹17,690₹17,890
Customer Ratings4.2/54.3/5

In these two refrigerator models from LG and Samsung, I have not found any complaints regarding their cooling methods; they both work astonishingly well. In fact, the inverter compressor operates similarly in both models but goes by different names.

However, if you examine the comparison table above, you will notice that the Samsung refrigerator offers more value and has received higher customer ratings at nearly the same price.

Choosing the Samsung refrigerator over the LG refrigerator in this case certainly seems sensible. Nevertheless, it’s also crucial to take customer service into consideration, a topic we will delve into later.

Frost-free technology:

In Direct Cool refrigerators, the biggest challenge is the manual defrosting of ice. To tackle this issue, modern refrigerator comes with frost-free technology instead of direct cooling.

Needless to say, Frost-free technology eliminates manual defrosting and provides consistent cooling and more space. Apart from single-door refrigerators, all other refrigerators come with frost-free features.

LG and Samsung both offer many refrigerators with frost-free technology with different capacities and features. Let’s compare Samsung 236L Frost-free (RT30C3733BX/HL) refrigerator to LG 256L Frost-free (GL-S262SESX) as both have the same energy star rating and similar price.

Customer Ratings4.2/54.3/5

Both refrigerators are convertible and work excellently. The Samsung refrigerator has more capacity and less energy consumption. Further, Samsung offers more warranty years on compressors at an affordable and digital display control panel. So again Samsung refrigerator is a winner in this capacity.

Similarly, when we compared the Samsung 322 L 3 Star refrigerator to the LG 322 L 3 Star refrigerator, having the same capacity and price, again I got the same result. But, this time the customer rating is equal in both i.e. 4.3/5. However, you must consider customer service…Samsung or LG, which has better customer service. We’ll discuss it later.

InstaView:

This feature is a glass panel on the door that illuminates when you knock twice, allowing you to see inside the fridge without opening the door and letting cold air escape.

Similar to the Linear inverter compressor, this feature you will mostly find in LG top-quality refrigerators. Samsung also offers these features but it does not have that much variety.

Let’s compare LG 674L Side-By-Side Refrigerator (GC-X257CQES) to Samsung 615L Side-by-Side Refrigerator (RS7HCG8543SLHL).

SpecificationsLG 674L refrigerator (GC-X257CQES)Samsung 615L refrigerator (RS7HCG8543SLHL)

This time, the LG Frost-Free refrigerator wins the game as it boasts a larger capacity and comes with a Wi-Fi-enabled feature. The price is slightly higher, but it is justified by the quality and features it offers.

Now, let’s delve into the customer service aspect of both refrigerators, as it plays a pivotal role in the LG vs. Samsung refrigerator comparison.

LG vs. Samsung Refrigerator: Customer Service

When purchasing home or kitchen appliances, it should always be your first priority to check their customer service. The company or brand that offers the best service is always preferred by customers.

What do you think… Does LG offer the best customer service, or does Samsung lead in refrigerators?

If you have prior positive experiences with either LG or Samsung appliances, you might lean towards the brand you’re familiar with and trust. However, buying a refrigerator is a different matter, especially when LG and Samsung refrigerators offer similar quality and features.

Allow me to share which brand offers the best customer service based on my personal experience and reviews from other users who are using these refrigerator brands.

Every user has a unique customer care experience. In some areas, you’ll find the customer service satisfying, while in others, you may encounter a rude service representative.

I recall when I purchased a Samsung refrigerator from Amazon for my house in the village. It was safely delivered as I had opted for the open-box delivery service. After the delivery, I received a call from Samsung regarding the installation service and a user guide. Although the Samsung service person arrived on time, they couldn’t clearly explain how to operate the fridge. However, when I raised this concern, they provided helpful guidance over the phone.

In the rural area, I found the customer care service to be less satisfactory.

If you encounter any delays in customer service, I would recommend reaching out to Samsung at 1800 40 726 7864 or 180057267864 and registering your complaint.

Similarly, with the LG refrigerator, I had a similar customer experience. The product was delivered on time, and the service was very pleasant. However, I didn’t receive any call for installation. So again, I would suggest not waiting for their call and instead proactively reaching out to them at 806-937-9999 or 1800-315-9999 to avoid delays.

In my case, the customer service was overall good for both Samsung and LG. However, upon researching, I discovered that some users also had negative experiences with the customer care service from these brands.
